The central character, Kaoru Amane, is a 16-year-old with xeroderma pigmentosum, a rare genetic disorder that renders her skin susceptible to irreversible damage from light exposure, her life in perpetual danger. She is relegated to her house during the day but at night, she takes to the streets to perform music in front of the train station where she catches a glimpse of a young boy she desires but can only admire from a distance. Her cousin intervenes and reveals that the boy's name is Kouji Fujishiro. Eventually, their paths cross during one of her nocturnal escapades, solidifying her love for him. However, Kaoru's illness presents relentless obstacles, threatening to test the couple's devotion.
