Synopsis: Mardock Scramble

Rarely is the term "kind" used in reference to Mardock City. This is especially true when considering the mistreatment of a young, destitute prostitute known as Rune Balot. But when Shell Septinos, a manager at a local casino, provides her with a place to call home, Balot thinks her fortune has changed. Unfortunately, her trust is misplaced, as Shell attempts to kill her, leaving her near death. Thankfully, she is saved by a man named Dr. Easter, who conducts an operation that imbues her with incredible powers, including enhanced senses and the ability to control electrical devices effortlessly. In exchange for her new abilities, Balot loses her voice. But the tradeoff is well worth it, as Balot now possesses the tools she needs to seek vengeance against the man who tried to end her life. With Dr. Easter and a miniature companion named Œufcoque Penteano at her side, Balot embarks on a mission to take down her would-be killer.
