Synopsis: The Last of the Mohicans

Sugiura Shigeru, a revered artist in Japanese comics, gained prominence through his 1953 rendition of James Fenimore Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans. The adaptation sold more than 60,000 copies, making Sugiura one of the most popular children's manga creators of the 1950s. Although his popularity waned in the mid-60s, he resurfaced in the late 60s with his highly surrealistic and collage-inspired pieces. In 1974, he produced a brilliant postwar manga version of The Last of the Mohicans, which is both visually striking and enjoyable to read. This edition by PictureBox is the first English book to feature Sugiura's work, and it has been edited and translated by Ryan Holmberg, who provides an introduction. This book is also the debut volume in PictureBox's Ten Cent Manga series, which focuses on genre-based works that were mass-produced in Japanese postwar comics.
