Patchouli had intended to use magical sealing to end Marisa's book stealing habit. However, things didn't quite go as planned and instead, Patchouli's own magical capabilities were sealed. The situation was a significant predicament for the magician since she was unable to perform any spells. Patchouli reached out to Koakuma for aid, but the demon's smile was just a front, and she ultimately refused to help.
